Plans for Fall 2017

PG Pride Girls Fall Lacrosse is Changing!

Updated Monday July 3, 2017 by PG Pride.

It’s time to start playing girls lacrosse in Prince George’s County!

This fall, we expect to play at Riverdale Recreational Park (near the intersection of Kenilworth and East-West Highway/River Road). Games will be small-sided, meaning players will have more touches on the ball. Teams and team sizes will be adjusted depending on the number of players and may vary by week. We expect to see mostly players from PG Pride, but players from other teams and new players are definitely welcome.

Also new: we want to include high school players. High school lacrosse is still new in our public schools and we want to give HS players an opportunity to sharpen their skills in the fall and our alumni a chance to remain part of the Pride.

  • 1st/2nd and 3rd/4th Grade: These two age groups will play in small teams on small fields. Each player will play two 30-minute games in a 1.5 hour time span. 1st/2nd grade will use small goals. 3rd/4th grade will use full size goals with rejectors or goalies. These groups will play between 1 and 2:30pm.
  • 5th/6th and 7th/8th Grade: These age groups will play a "Queen of the Turf" half-court format (each age group on one side of the field). Two small-sided teams will play on a single goal. Modified checking. Each player will play two 30-minute games in a 1.5 hour time span. These groups will play between 2:30 and 4pm.
  • High School: In addition to our normal age groups, we will also organize small-sided half-court games for high school players. High school players will play between 4 and 5:30pm. Full checking. Two 30-minute games in a 1.5 hour time span. Games take place between 4 and 5:30pm.

There will be no team practices, but will offer skill clinics once a week. Coach Mark Mozier and his team of ULAX coaches (link) will be back to help us improve our skills. Players will be grouped by skill level. This is also a great opportunity for new/prospective PG Pride coaches to see other coaches in action.

So here’s what we’re offering:

  • Five weeks of recreational-level play in Riverdale on Sunday afternoons (Sep 17-Oct 15).
  • Six weeks of ULAX clinics led by Coach Mark Mozier at Duvall Field in College Park, tentatively Mondays evenings (Sep 11-Oct 16, 6:00-8pm). Third grade and up only.

Registration will open shortly. Cost for the season is $100 for 3rd grade and up, $70 for 1st and 2nd graders. Registration slots will be limited to the number of players we can accommodate.

We expect to be playing in our regular league (MGLL) in the spring.
